General information on lung cancer surgery
Lung cancer in early stage (stage I and II) is usually treated by the intervention of surgery and a combination of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. ALT, in particular, offers a less invasive than standard thoracotomy, and undoubtedly the result of reduced blood loss for patients with a period much less pain and recovery.
Thoracoscopic or surgical Video-assisted thoracic (VT)
VATS is a state of advanced surgical technique that allows the resection of tumors without invasive surgery complete. A video camera allows the surgeon to see inside the patient's chest and location of cancerous tumors with a screen full-power television. This provides a qualified surgeon with the ability to operate without having to open the patient and consists of a series of small incisions.
As surgical incisions and invasion is considerably reduced, the patient feels less pain and has a very limited period of recovery after the operation. The technique is not universally used mainly for two reasons – first, the surgical skill level required is very high and highly skilled surgeons can use the technique successfully.
